What are triglycerides?

Triglycerides are a type of fat (lipid) found in the blood.

When you eat, your body converts any calories you don't need to use right away into triglycerides. Triglycerides are stored in fat cells. Later, hormones release triglycerides for energy between meals.

If you regularly consume more calories than you use in a day, particularly from foods high in carbohydrates and saturated fats, you may have high triglycerides (hypertriglyceridemia).

What is considered normal? A simple blood test can reveal if your triglycerides are within a healthy range:

Normal: less than 150 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl), or less than 1.7 millimoles per liter (mmol/l) Borderline: 150 to 199 mg/dl (1.8 to 2.2 mmol/l) High: 200 to 499 mg/dl (2.3 to 5.6 mmol/L) Very high: 500 mg/dl or more (5.7 mmol/L or more)

That's why weighing food is so important. When designing a diet, you consider the types of activities you do each day, from the moment you wake up, to the kind of work you do, whether you study, and even sexual activity. All these activities have a value, and based on that, the diet is calculated, specifying exactly how many grams of protein, carbohydrates, and fats you should consume.

If we don't weigh our food, if we just serve ourselves until we're full, we can easily exceed our calculated daily calorie intake, and the excess food can be stored as triglycerides. Just because we're eating healthily doesn't mean we should exceed the recommended calorie limit.

Now, if we're lacking calories, we're going to feel tired, we're not going to lose fat, and our muscles aren't going to grow…

SO PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR DIET. We must weigh our food.
